Overview: Theodore Roosevelt Tunnel (I-287)
THIS IS AN OVERVIEW, WHICH EXPLORES AND DISCUSSES PERSONAL PROPOSALS FOR HIGHWAYS AND/OR CROSSINGS.
OVERVIEW
Governor Cuomo announced Last Tuesday that he would be launching a $5 Million Dollar Study to review a proposal to construct a bridge from Oyster Bay to Rye. I am against the construction of a bridge, for it would disturb the nature of the Sound and instead, will be advocating this proposal.
STARTING POINT
This tunnel would begin in Syosset at the intersection with the Jericho Turnpike, which would be rebuilt with toll lanes and entrance points. A park and sound wall would be built in order to keep the tunnel sounds from distrubing the peace.
The Tunnel would be far underground by the time it reaches Oyster Bay, thus making it unlikely to destroy the community. the Mill Neck area would be where the tunnel heads into the Sound. At this point, travelers would have been traveling at least 7 or 8 miles.
THROUGH THE SOUND
The Tunnel would continue on its path as it heads north. The Tunnel would have three lanes in each direction, with both an emergency exit tube and a rail tunnel for trains and even light rail ?
The Turn around lane would be just north of Bayville.
WESTCHESTER INTERSECTION
The Tunnel would end in Westchester, surfacing just south of I-95. the Eastbound lanes to I-95 would be underground. Also, With the tolls being on Long Island, Southbound Travelers on I-287 would be underground briefly before I-95 with Traffic coming off the New England Thruway (I-95) joining it as it goes underground.
