OVERVIEW
Right Now, Interstate 87 ends just north of the Robert F. Kennedy Triborough Bridge in the Bronx. While this Interstate stretches over 334 miles, the end is still not a proper one. Here I will break down how I-87 will be extended and explain what would work would need to be done in order to maintain the Roadways that it follows.  The Breakdown will not be as long as it is not a new route, but follows an exisiting one

If you Have not guessed this yet, I-87 will be replacing I-278. This means the BQE, Gowanus, and Staten Island Expressway will need to be upgraded extensively. The Robert F. Kennedy Triborough's Queens Approach would need to be revisited. The Grand Central Parkway would have to see its clearances lowered by about a foot, and eventually buried. Another scenario, would be to rebuild the roadway. Tearing down buildings along Astoria Boulevard, and protecting the Subway line headed for the Nearby Hell's Gate Bridge would have to be protected, but it isn't impossible. Clearances would be on par with that of most of the BQE.

On the BQE, The Kosciuszko Bridge is presently being replaced with a new span. This Span would bring the roadway up to modern standards. As for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, The Roadway would need to be buried, or repaired brought up to modern standards.

VERRAZANO AND STATEN ISLAND
The Verrazano Bridge would receive a pedestrian path allowing people to walk across the Bridge. The Staten Island Expressway would be widened between Exits 5 and 3.
In Future Posts, I will be discussing the Korean Veterans Memorial Parkway, West Shore Expressway, MLK Expressway, and the new Willowbrook Parkway Proposal. For the Willowbrook, the intersection would be reconstructed, but not until it is approved, unlike the last time.

CROSSING INTO NEW JERSEY, TERMINUS
The New Goethals Bridge would carry I-87 into New Jersey, thus making it a True Interstate Highway. I-87 would terminate at the same spot (or even be buried until the End of 1-9 to accommodate a future proposal). With this in mind, I-87 would receive a much better terminus than the one it has now, and if it does get extended into Pennsylvania, would connect Philadelphia to Montreal and open the door for new Auxiliary routes in both New York and New Jersey.

To Avoid Confusion, Areas Closest to I-78, would not be signed on Exit Ramps. The Goethals would have to gain its own shield for the signs on the Turnpike and any highway that overlaps with that route within a mile radius.

UPDATE, SEPTEMBER 8, 2017: REMOVED GOWANUS EXPRESSWAY SECTION AS I MEANT TO WRITE THAT FOR THE BQE.

If it does not extend into Pennsylvania, I-87's New Terminus Point would be here in Elizabeth
