Overview: Prospect Expressway (I-378)

 THIS POST IS AN OVERVIEW

Brooklyn's Prospect Expressway currently serves as a North-South Highway connecting the Gowanus Expressway with Ocean Parkway and Linden Boulevard. The Highway was originally envisioned to go all the way to Coney Island,  But opposition killed that project. In order to complete this project without impeeding the traffic and landspace permanently, I am proposing a Capped Six-Lane freeway that would connect the Prospect Expressway with Coney Island.

The Current Prospect Expressway would be capped, with a park and bike and pedestrian walkways above it. The Project would allow for neighborhoods disconnected to be reunited.

CHURCH AVE TO AVENUE U

One of the Proposals involving I-35 in Austin, Texas, utilizing the Cut and Cover technique, which would provide a new surface boulevard and some real estate while allowing I-35 to pass underground.  (Source: Reconnect Austin)

The Prospect Expressway Extension would be constructed as a depressed freeway before its capped. Above it would be a two-lane surface boulevard with a bus lane as well as the existing bike lanes.

Only Three Exits would be planned here. 18th Avenue, Avenue P, and Kings Highway.

AVENUE U TO NEPTUNE AVE

Beginning at Avenue U and continuing to its terminus at Neptune Ave, the Prospect Expressway would then be a surface-level road with traffic lights replaced with over and underpasses at key points. The Belt Parkway would be the Final Exit before its terminus at Neptune Avenue.
